Sister Angeles returns to Hengrave

2010-08-08

Sister Angeles, a member of the Religious of the Assumption recently returned to Hengrave for her annual summer visit.

Sister Angeles lived at Hengrave for 22 years before it was sold in 2006.  Now living in Kensington, London Sister Angeles makes an annual trip back to Hengrave to visit David and Mary.  During her recent visit not only did she visit old friends and spend time in the gardens and grounds of Hengrave but she also enjoyed attending two wedding services held in the Church and in particular seeing lots of people enjoying such a beautiful and special place.

Originally from Caceves in the South West of Spain Sister Angeles joined the Assumption at the tender age of 18 after a calling from God.  Whilst at Hengrave her main duty was upholstery, mainly for chairs however the Sisters each had one day off a week and Sister Angeles used to spend this making postcards.  She recalls a friend at the Cambridge University Press generously giving her some paper which took her 3 years to get through!

When asked what she missed most of Hengrave, Sister Angeles said it was the Church yard as this was area she used to grow flowers to put in the cards she made, she vividly recalls the day she planted the flowers, as a downpour began almost immediately!

We regularly update the Sisters with our progress at Hengrave and we hope Sister Angeles will be back to visit again next year.
